Waiting on Wednesday (#42) - Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

Ignite Me (Shatter Me, #3)

The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, called "a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love"

Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she'll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.

In Shatter Me, Tahereh Mafi created a captivating and original story that combined the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as "a gripping read from an author who's not afraid to take risks." The sequel, Unravel Me, blew readers away with heart-racing twists and turns, and New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia said it was "dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense." Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and climactic end.

Praise for the Shatter Me series:

"Dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense. I dare you to stop reading."-Kami Garcia, #1 New York Times bestselling coauthor of the Beautiful Creatures series

"Tahereh Mafi's bold, inventive prose crackles with raw emotion. A thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love, the Shatter Me series is a must-read for fans of dystopian young adult literature-or any literature!"-Ransom Riggs, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

"Addictive, intense, and oozing with romance. I'm envious. I couldn't put it down."-Lauren Kate, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fallen series

Why I'm Waiting For It: OMFG..we finally got the title & cover and I'm seriously dying right now!

description

And the idea that Juliette is going to need Warner's help? *Dies* *Gets up and dances* Honestly, Adam will flip out over this...

First off, this cover is seriously KILLER

description

I honestly think it was one of my favorite cover of 2013, it's so eye - catching, and the Fincolor really pop! I really love it! :))

Second, it time for me to make some predictions:

1.) Kenji could possibly die? (Let's hope not)
2.) Adam will push away Juliette since she now has to ask for his help, but then there's going to be a scene where they get all close and he forgives her.
3.) Warner is going to have some steamy scenes with Juliette
4.) A Big Finale fight scene (please Tahereh!)
5.) Someone is going to pay for Juliette choices
6.) Lots of hot, steamy scenes
7.) Kenji finally gets a girl?
8.) Juliette's parent make an appearance? (Possibly??)

So far, those are my prediction and I already know Ignite Me will definitely be the perfect Shatter Me book!

Also, Ignite Me?
a.k.a many hot and steamy scenes with either Juliette or Adam? Yes please!

Juliette is such a kick butt character, I love her. :)

Bubbly & Racing: Serpent's Kiss - Melissa De La Cruz

Serpent's Kiss (The Beauchamp Family #2)Serpent's Kiss by Melissa De La Cruz
Date Released: June 12, 2012
Publisher: Hyperion

Pages: 384 Pages
Format: Paperback
Source: For Review
Rating: Loved
Series: (The Beauchamp Family #2)

Goodreads Synopsis: The powerful Beauchamp family, introduced in the New York Times bestselling Witches of East End, returns in The Serpent's Kiss, with dizzying plot twists and the spell-binding magic that have made both Witches of East End and Melissa's Blue Bloods series such enormous successes.

Just as things have settled down in the off-the-map Long Island town of North Hampton for the magical Beauchamp family, everything gets turned upside down once more when Freya's twin brother Fryr, or "Freddie" as he's called now, returns from Limbo with shocking news - that it was none other than Freya's fiancé, Killian Gardiner, who set up his downfall.
He begs Freya to keep his presence a secret, even from their own family, but somehow the irascible Freddie is still able to conduct many affairs with the town's young lovelies from his self-imposed exile. Until he falls for the wrong girl.

While Freya tries to keep her brother from exacting revenge on the man she loves, Ingrid has her own problems. Her human boyfriend, Matt Noble, becomes entangled in a complicated investigation, and when the magical creatures at the center of it come to Ingrid for help, she has a difficult choice to make.

To top it off, a dead spirit is trying to make contact with Joanna - but does it mean to harm or warn the witches? All hell breaks loose at the family reunion over Thanksgiving, and much mayhem ensues, but when the culprit behind Freddie's imprisonment is finally revealed, it may already be too late to staunch the poison that's been released by the serpent's kiss. The spells cast by the bestselling Witches of East End continue in this bewitching follow-up that Melissa de la Cruz's many fans won't want to miss.

From Goodreads

Serpent's Kiss was so much better than it's preceder, more action, a building suspense, and an ending that turns heads. I love how there was more focus on the characters personalities and it felt more well rounded than the first. So far, Serpent's Kiss has been my favorite in this series and I really loved it a lot.

I love the depth and personalities that Mel gave Ingrid, Freya, and Joanna in her second book. They get more relatable and honest, and they really connected with me. There's also a lot going on the book, which is either a miss or a hit, and for me it hit pretty good. We see that Ingrid's brother, Freddie is in the North Hamptons, a dead spirit is connecting with Joanna but she doesn't know why, and Freya is busy with her human boyfriend, Matt Noble and whether he'll accept her. One of the best scenes I loved, was Thanksgiving! Mel really got her characters perfect in that scene and so much was going on I loved it! *claps*

Even with some high points, there were some things I just felt didn't go well with Serpent's Kiss such as the deal with the fairies and the trident. The way the events lead up to finding out who stole it and why the fairies were here took forever, seriously. One chapter they think they know why, but no, they don't go and stop that person already. There was just too much delaying of the main plot itself, suspense wasn't as suspenseful as it was going to be.

The ending definitely makes up for the slow plot and I was so excited for book 3! I think it was well written and balanced out well with the rest of the book. There was so much action and revelations revealed it was really climatic and I loved every second of it! The witches go through a lot and after reader Serpent's Kiss I'm definitely sad but happy for book 3! The characters really grow with the reader and the situations they go through :)

Falling a Bit Short: The Grass is Always Greener - Jen Calonita

The Grass Is Always Greener (Belles, #3)The Grass is Always Greener by Jen Calonita
Date Released: April 16, 2013
Publisher: Poppy

Pages: 304 Pages
Format: E-Book
Source: Library
Rating: Really Liked
Series: (Belles #3)

Goodreads Synopsis: How many secrets can one family keep?

Amid preparations for Emerald Cove's extravagant Founders Day celebration and their own shared sweet sixteen, Isabelle Scott and Mirabelle Monroe are longing to break free from the tight constraints that come with being the daughters of a prominent public figure. When Izzie's estranged aunt, Zoe, breezes into town, the already uneasy family dynamic is turned on its head.

Izzie's finally found her footing in Emerald Cove by leading the Social Butterflies, her school's prestigious club, and she has no interest in getting to know yet another long-lost family member. But Mira, who's on a mission to try new things and make new friends, is drawn to Izzie's artsy aunt. And when Mira meets a handsome, brooding painter, her entire perspective on life begins to shift.
As tensions mount in Emerald Cove, Zoe's laid-back attitude appeals to both girls. But when she offers Izzie the chance of a lifetime, it's time to make a tough decision. What's more important: family or freedom?

From Goodreads

I love Jen Calonita and the Belles series so much, The Grass is Always Greener was a bit less promising the the first two. It had that perfect writing, great characters, but something was missing that makes all her book cohesive and come together, like the other 2.

It's almost time for the Founders Day in Emerald Cove but for sisters Izzie and Mira there is always more to an event then meets the eye. Plus to add to their stress, their sweet sixteen is around the corner, and Izzies's aunt Zoe makes a unacquainted visit. There's no doubt Jen likes to have a lot going in her books, which I personally love because it always keep me turning and it organized, but in TGIAG it needed something to bring it all together. Izzie was really bugging me in the book. Seriously, she was so negative and closed - minded for almost half of the book until the end when you opens up a bit. She definitely wasn't like this in the other books, also I didn't get the same connection with her like the other books, but I did love Mira in this one. The other characters were also great, like Charolette, the new guy Landon, Brayden, etc. The Belles series has such a great cast of memorable characers!

In TGISAG, we see a lot of comparisons and differences between Harborside and Emerald Cove come into play. With that there's also backstabbing and lies that got me more intrigued. Zoe actually reminds me of a character I read in a book (which I can't remember) but she had that personality and feel that I can relate too. One of my favorite scenes was the end! I loved how it was emotional for the characters but also for the reader also. You feel happy one page, then a this sad feeling, all the emotions worked great with what Izzie was feeling or what Mira had to go through with choosing Kellen or Landon.

The Grass is Always Greener was a likeable book, but it was missing that zang Jen always delivers. But there are great moments like Mira's art class, Founder's Day, Izzie's aunt Zoe, that make it a standout from the series. Belles is the perfect series for anyone looking for a great fun and speedy contemporary that you'll always want to pick up :)

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

On Internment, the floating island in the clouds where 16-year-old Morgan Stockhour lives, getting too close to the edge can lead to madness. Even though Morgan's older brother, Lex, was a Jumper, Morgan vows never to end up like him. She tries her best not to mind that her life is orderly and boring, and if she ever wonders about the ground, and why it is forbidden, she takes solace in best friend Pen and her betrothed, Basil.

Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially when she meets Judas. He is the boy being blamed for the murder — betrothed to the victim — but Morgan is convinced of his innocence. Secrets lay at the heart of Internment, but nothing can prepare Morgan for what she will find — or who she will lose.

Why I'm Waiting For It: It's Lauren DeStefano!! There's nothing else to say, but this book sounds genius and I can't wait to pick this up!

Different & Promising: Witches of East End - Melissa De La Cruz

Witches of East End (The Beauchamp Family, #1)Witches of East End by Melissa De La Cruz
Date Released: June 21, 2011
Publisher: Hyperion

Pages: 272 Pages
Format: Paperback
Source: For Review
Rating: Enjoyed A Lot
Series: (The Beauchamp Family #1)

Goodreads Synopsis: From the author of the highly addictive and bestselling Blue Bloods series, with almost 3 million copies sold, comes a new novel, Melissa de la Cruz's first for adults, featuring a family of formidable and beguiling witches.

The three Beauchamp women--Joanna and her daughters Freya and Ingrid--live in North Hampton, out on the tip of Long Island. Their beautiful, mist-shrouded town seems almost stuck in time, and all three women lead seemingly quiet, uneventful existences. But they are harboring a mighty secret--they are powerful witches banned from using their magic. Joanna can resurrect people from the dead and heal the most serious of injuries. Ingrid, her bookish daughter, has the ability to predict the future and weave knots that can solve anything from infertility to infidelity. And finally, there's Freya, the wild child, who has a charm or a potion that can cure most any heartache.

For centuries, all three women have been forced to suppress their abilities. But then Freya, who is about to get married to the wealthy and mysterious Bran Gardiner, finds that her increasingly complicated romantic life makes it more difficult than ever to hide her secret. Soon Ingrid and Joanna confront similar dilemmas, and the Beauchamp women realize they can no longer conceal their true selves. They unearth their wands from the attic, dust off their broomsticks, and begin casting spells on the townspeople. It all seems like a bit of good-natured, innocent magic, but then mysterious, violent attacks begin to plague the town. When a young girl disappears over the Fourth of July weekend, they realize it's time to uncover who and what dark forces are working against them.

With a brand-new cast of characters, a fascinating and fresh world to discover, and a few surprise appearances from some of the Blue Blood fan favorites, this is a page-turning, deliciously fun, magical summer read fraught with love affairs, witchcraft, and an unforgettable battle between good and evil.

From Goodreads

With Mel's Blue Blood series that I loved a lot, I was going into Witches of East End with huge expectations, and it did live up to some of them. Even though it was pitched as an "adult" book with the exception of a few scenes, it had that great YA element and feel that Mel successfully captured. Witches of East End will definitely be an absorbing read for Blue Blood fans filled with new characters, witchcraft, and bubbling romance.

Witches of East End may be one of my first fully read "adult" book I read and it definitely won't be my last. There's more of a seriousness and different feel in contrast to YA. The best thing I loved about the book was it's cast of characters! Joanna, and her two daughters, Ingrid and Freya live in North Hampton as witches. Ingrid is a bookish girl and she can predict the future and weave these super cool knots. Joanna can raise people from the dead and Freya can create these drinks that can solve anyone's problems with one sip. But as each girl discovers there so much more to their town, things heat up and I loved it so much when it did! You get to see more personalities shine, meet new enemies, and it's like a spiral of events that keep getting better and better by each page. I was so surprise since it's not my usually pick of books, and Mel delivers just like the Blue Bloods series!

One thing I liked about Witches of East End was that their was a lot more depth coming from YA books to adult books. It wasn't all adult language, but there was an ease to the pacing and writing, I really enjoyed. Things got so much more interesting towards the middle and I grew to like each Beauchamp witch. I really loved Freya and Ingrid, since they had some wicked powers and I love seeing Freya create these drinks and Ingrid in her library, and Hudson was great too. The cast of characters help bring the whole book together really well!

Definitely pick up Witches of East End if you a YA reader ready to tackle some adult book, this series is great for you. I'm 15 and I'm really enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to some more great adult books (so suggest some!). Filled with a great witty cast of characters, fun scenes, and a whole lot of enchanting witchcraft, Witches of East End will be a great read :)

Waiting on Wednesday (#41) - Fiery Heart by Melissa De La Cruz

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.

Pulses will race throughout this thrilling fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

Why I'm Waiting For It: *Dies* There is just no words to say how excited I am for this! Seriously, Richelle Mead is wickedly brilliant for creating Bloodlines and VA, she needs to get loads of book rewards for them! The Bloodlines is such an riveting and amazing series, it's one you can't miss or won't remember! I'm really excited for Fiery Heart since it's going to be from Sydney and Adrien's POV! Like, hell yes, we need both to make this the best Bloodlines book ever!

ERMAGERD

And, the idea it's going to be out October 2013, makes me even mad! (But seriously, she writes wicked fast!)

Honestly, if  you haven't heard of any of the Bloodlines books, VA books, or Richelle Mead you're living under a rock I'm about to hit you with! Pick this series up now!

Raw & Intense: Anna Dressed In Blood - Kendare Blake

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1)Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake
Date Released: September 2011
Publisher: Tor Teen

Pages: 316 Pages
Format: Paperback
Source: LA Festival of Books (Bought)
Rating: Loved
Series: (Anna #1)

Goodreads Synopsis: Cas Lowood, armed with his late father's athame knife, kills ghosts. In Thunder Bay, Anna, forever 16, drips blood on her white dress from throat slit in 1958, and rips apart anyone who enters her house - except Cas. He makes new friends - high school queen Carmel, jock Will, admiring nerd Thomas and Tom's voodoo grandpa Morfran - to fight this demon.

From Goodreads

Anna Dressed In Blood was totally engrossing, vividly graphic, and it gave paranormal romance in YA something fresh it desperately needed. It gave me chills and I'm definitely glad I picked up this summer! But even with all those creepy scenes in the book, I loved it and I can't wait for book 2.

What I instantly noticed about Anna Dressed In Blood was that it was written in the POV of Cas Loswood, a guy rather than a girl, even though the author was a girl. What else could I say? Kendare Blake really captured Anna's story perfectly and I liked it even more since it was through a guy POV, which we barely see in YA. Cas had his dad's athame, a knife he uses to kill ghosts. When his mom and Cas arrive in Thunder Bay, he meets Anna, a ghost the whole town is afraid off, Cas knows that there's more to her story. Anna's story was rich and sad. It was brutal and it's puts you at the edge of your seat. The characters in the book were really unique and I really liked each on like Carmel and Tom gave the book more of a light feel contrasted with the graphic scenes throughout. Anna Dressed In Blood gets it's characters right and it's plot line is killer.

Anna Dressed In Blood also had some surprises which were something I did not see coming and I liked that a lot. It had some romance sparking with Cas and Anna and I thought that it was done well! Ghost girl falls in love with ghost hunter? I liked that concept and what makes it even better it how it wasn't fully focused on that, but more of Anna's story of opening up to this world around her. Plus, there was great action and suspense perfect for shaking up your summer pile.

Anna Dressed In Blood was tantalizing, filled chills and a concept that will intrigue every reader. It was so happy to picked up this book and it definitely was a memorable read! I'm honestly excited for book 2 and Kendare's new book Antigoddess!
