Waiting on Wednesday (#22) - Impostor by Jill Hathaway

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

Impostor (Slide #2)

What if a killer took control of you?

Vee Bell’s gift (or curse) of “sliding”—slipping into the mind of another person and experiencing life, briefly, through his or her eyes—has been somewhat under control since she unwillingly witnessed the horrific deaths of her classmates six months ago.

But just as things are getting back to normal, Vee has a very bizarre experience: she loses consciousness and finds herself in a deserted area, at the edge of a cliff, with the broken body of the boy who took advantage of her on the rocks below.

As Vee finds herself in stranger and stranger situations with no memory of getting there, she begins to suspect that someone she knows has the ability to slide—and that this “slider” is using Vee to exact revenge on his or her enemies.

Why I'm Waiting For It: I loved Slide so much! It was a quick and fun read, I can't wait to see how Impostor goes! Plus the storyline in this one looks more developed! Mind slipping. A stranger. Revenge. Count me in! :)

Slide will be published on March 26, 2013 by Balzer + Bray

Breaking A Thousand Year Curse: Tiger's Curse - Colleen Houck

Tiger's Curse (The Tiger Saga, #1)Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck
Date Released: January 11, 2011
Publisher: Sterling

Pages: 403
Format:
 Paperback
Source: Barnes and Noble
Rating: Liked A Lot
Series: (The Tiger's Curse Sage #1)

Goodreads Synopsis:  Passion. Fate. Loyalty.

Would you risk it all to change your destiny?

The last thing Kelsey Hayes thought she’d be doing this summer was trying to break a 300-year-old Indian curse. With a mysterious white tiger named Ren. Halfway around the world. But that’s exactly what happened. Face-to-face with dark forces, spellbinding magic, and mystical worlds where nothing is what it seems, Kelsey risks everything to piece together an ancient prophecy that could break the curse forever.

Tiger’s Curse is the exciting first volume in an epic fantasy-romance that will leave you breathless and yearning for more.
Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck was a really great read! It had elements of suspense, action, touch of romance, a curse,  and a tiger, really. Tiger's Curse was a fresh idea that kept me racing to the pages to uncover a curse and Colleen Houck created a world that's new and exciting to be in!

Kelsey Hayes is your normal teenage girl, just like every other YA book out there, and for her summer means joining a circus for a job. But immediately Colleen weaves up suspense and brings in a tiger and Mr. Kadam, a mysterious person who helps Kelsey along her quest. I thought that part, I had problems. It was too fast, it needed more time to develop, maybe giving Kelsey a chance to show us more of her life, friends and of course in this book there is absent parents. *Gives and Oh no face* But Kelsey does prove herself more and Colleen manages to thicken the plot as Kelsey, Mr.Kadam, and the tiger head to India.

I have to say though the rich details and Indian culture kept me reading! It was so cool to see a YA author bring Indian aspects to a book and its new and definitely a high for me. Another high would be the characters. Mr. Kadam and Ren were really the best one! There was something always odd and quirky about Mr. Kadam I really like and for Ren it was cool seeing him as a tiger and the feelings her shares for Kelsey. But Kelsey, she has to get more spunk and depth in the next one, please! :)) The chemistry between Ren and Kelsey was pretty good, and lots of potential in the nest one.

Look at my collage :))

Overall, Tiger's Curse was a really great book. If you love to read something adventurous and full of rich details pick up Tiger's Curse! In addition, it has great characters, touch of romance, and doesn't end of a cliffhanger!

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

From Goodreads

My Teaser: "How did you not just feel that?" "Feel what-" "Look at your hand!" I gasp. Stumble backward. My hand is full of what looks like red sand and brown clay pulverized into tiny particles. The bigger chunks of brick crumble to the floor and I let the debris slip through the cracks between my fingers only to lift the guilty hand to my face. I look up. Kenji is shaking his head, shaking with laughter. "I am so jealous right now you have no idea." "Oh my God."

I am so freaking excited for this one! Shatter me was EPIC, crossing my fingers this one is just as good! Can't wait to post up my review!! :)

Author Interview: The Look - Sophie Bennet!

 photo 69a71cd4-d461-4ad5-8fdb-19e76e75a841_zps11941883.jpg

I'm so excited to interview Sophia Bennett, author of The Look, coming out March 1, 2013! I can't wait for the book and to share this interview! Plus, the cover is eye-catching!

The Bookshelves: 1.) What inspired you to write The Look?
Sophia: To quote from my website, here's how it started: In June 2010 a girl called Elizabeth wrote to me, telling me she was thinking about becoming an English teacher one day: ‘the kind who wear pencil skirts and crimson lipstick’. That sounded great to me! But she’d been told she could maybe be a model instead – what did I think?

Well, I wasn’t sure what to think. At least, I knew what I thought (which was ‘No! Don’t do it! Be that English teacher instead!’), but I realised I didn’t know why. What’s it like to be a model? Who would enjoy it? Who wouldn’t? Is it really as glamorous as it sounds, or as seedy as some people say?

I was talking to some of the girls from Bliss magazine at the time and they said that whenever they run a modelling competition, they’re overwhelmed by entries. According to surveys, about 30% of girls consider it at some stage. Secretly. Nobody will admit to it. But they do.

And so I set off on my research. Meanwhile, a friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer and she had a whole set of new and different challenges to face. And I saw a stunning girl on the street with an arrestingly short haircut, and I instantly realised she was my main character, Ted. Gradually it all came together. Not the story I first had in mind, but a different one – a bit darker and much harder to tell, about two sisters, and how they cope with a cancer diagnosis and finding themselves in two very different, unfamiliar worlds. This story became The Look.

TB: 2.) What character resembles you the post and why? Was there any "you" in any of the characters?

This was a tricky book for me to write, because the main character, Ted, isn't much like me at all. For a start, she's very tall! I'm five foot five, and I was never going to be a model. Also, Ted starts off not really knowing what she wants to do with her life, whereas I knew from very early on that I wanted to be a writer. I found it easier to write Ted as the book progressed and she started discovering herself.

I'm not really Ava, the glamorous sister, either, although I like her very much. She and Ted are based on some close sisters that I know, and they also have characteristics I've grabbed from different places. The character most based on me is actually the scatty dad, based at home, writing and trying his best to look after his family. There's quite a lot of me in him.

But the most fun character to develop, by far, was Tina di Gaggia, the outrageous fashion trend-spotter. She's based on a few reality TV fashion people I love (naming no names). She's very eccentric, slightly evil, and a joy to write.

TB: 3.) Tell us about that cover! How was the process to getting the cover art like? Did you love the cover?

Do you like the cover? I'm dying to know what people think of it. I don't know the detail of how it came about, because Scholastic like to protect me from their art department, or the other way around, which is possibly theagood thing. But I do know that they wanted it to be edgier than the (gorgeous, but very different) UK cover. It's an edgy story, so I'm fine with that. The inspiration for the two faces came from the poster for The Ides of March - where the faces belong to Ryan Gosling and George Clooney. The girls on my cover are actually two different people, too. I really like the bravery of using a shorn head in one of the pictures. The head shaving scene is the central one in the book, and most readers' favourite, so it's good to see it represented on the cover.

TB: 4.) A Favorite Store. One Wish. Fav movie in 2012

Hard. Possibly Liberty, off Regent Street in London. Or Anthropologie. I'd wish for an end to all torture. Also saggy facial skin on women over 40 (sigh). But torture first. Hunger Games. Jennifer Lawrence is Awe. Some. I can't wait to see her in the Silver Linings Playbook.

TB: 5.) Tweet Review! In 140 Words or less, tell us about The Look!

Words, or characters?

Two sisters. Once cancer diagnosis. One chance to be a model. How far would you go to help the sister you love?

TB: 6.) How was the writing process like? Any tips for inspiring writers?

For this book - very tough. It took a long, long time for the characters to be fleshed out, and to work out which bits of my research into the modelling world I wanted to use. I always find beginnings - the first ten thousand words - the hardest by far. But I really wanted to tell this story. It was inspired by people very close to me.

As for tips for aspiring writers, to quote Neil Gaiman - do it. Just write. Finish what you started. That is what writers do. Sounds easy - but it's hard. Don't worry: it's hard for all of us. We do it because we don't want to do anything else.

TB: 7.) What can you tell us about the next book? Any hints you can give us?

I'm just finishing the main edit for the next book now. It's going to be called 'You Don't Know Me', and it's about a group of girls who love to sing and find themselves in an online talent show. They're asked to drop one of the girls if they want to make it, and without really thinking about it, they do. Then there's a huge online backlash. How do you deal with life when 300,000 people officially hate you? What makes you strong?

It comes out in the UK in May, and I'm so glad the story is working out the way I wanted it to. That one was hard to write, too!

TB: 8.) What is your current YA read? How are you liking it?

I'm currently reading Torn, by another UK YA writer called Cat Clarke. It's about a popular mean girl who mysteriously died on a camping trip, and the surviving girls, who know what happened but aren't talking. Like all Cat's books, it's intriguingly written, with a great voice, so I'm loving it.

Follow Friday (#16) - Favorite Character Letter!

Follower Friday is Hosted @

Parajunkee

Today's Question:
Write a letter to your favorite character. Rant, rave or gush…just pretend like they are real and you just want to let them know a “few things”. – Activity courtesy of author, Kelly Walker

My Answer:
This is definitely one of the best Follower Friday pick! I'll be doing my later on Sydney from Bloodlines by Richelle Mead!

 Dear Sydney,
Your one of my favorite chacracters! Your so bubbly, fun, and a witty person! But really, you in The Golden Lily was like what!?! You got to take more risk, really! Don't be afaind of other alchemist, like Keith, twisting your mind. Plus we need to see you more in action, like some kick-butt alchemist magic, and seriously I think you have a power, you just have to find it! Ask Ms.Telliweger for training!

Ooh! How's Adrien? You two are so perfect for each other! Brayden was completely weird Sydney, even though both of you guys were so compatiable! But going for Adrian, is beyond, so it's cool to see you do that! Plus her cares for you! After all, he saved you from Trey and his people. Stay amazing, especially in The Indigo Spell because I have yet to read it!!

Sincerly, PC

Be Kick-Butt.

Cover Reveal: Across A Star Swept Sky & 3:59

I'm completely excited for these covers! Don't they look so awesomesauce? And I can't wait to actually see them when they come out!

Goodreads Synopsis:  Centuries after wars nearly destroyed civilization, the two islands of New Pacifica stand alone, a terraformed paradise where even the Reduction—the devastating brain disorder that sparked the wars—is a distant memory. Yet on the isle of Galatea, an uprising against the ruling aristocrats has turned deadly. The revolutionaries’ weapon is a drug that damages their enemies’ brains, and the only hope is rescue by a mysterious spy known as the Wild Poppy.

On the neighboring island of Albion, no one suspects that the Wild Poppy is actually famously frivolous aristocrat Persis Blake. The teenager uses her shallow, socialite trappings to hide her true purpose: her gossipy flutternotes are encrypted plans, her pampered sea mink is genetically engineered for spying, and her well-publicized new romance with handsome Galatean medic Justen Helo… is her most dangerous mission ever.

Though Persis is falling for Justen, she can’t risk showing him her true self, especially once she learns he’s hiding far more than simply his disenchantment with his country’s revolution and his undeniable attraction to the silly socialite he’s pretending to love. His darkest secret could plunge both islands into a new dark age, and Persis realizes that when it comes to Justen Helo, she’s not only risking her heart, she’s risking the world she’s sworn to protect.

In this thrilling adventure inspired by The Scarlet Pimpernel, Diana Peterfreund creates an exquisitely rendered world where nothing is as it seems and two teens with very different pasts fight for a future only they dare to imagine.

From Goodreads

Goodreads Synopsis:  Josie Byrne's life is spiraling out of control. Her parents are divorcing, her boyfriend Nick has grown distant, and her physics teacher has it in for her. When she's betrayed by the two people she trusts most, Josie thinks things can't get worse.

Until she starts having dreams about a girl named Jo. Every night at the same time—3:59 a.m.

Jo's life is everything Josie wants: she's popular, her parents are happily married, and Nick adores her. It all seems real, but they're just dreams, right? Josie thinks so, until she wakes one night to a shadowy image of herself in the bedroom mirror – Jo.

Josie and Jo realize that they are doppelgängers living in parallel universes that overlap every twelve hours at exactly 3:59. Fascinated by Jo's perfect world, Josie jumps at the chance to jump through the portal and switch places for a day.

But Jo’s world is far from perfect. Not only is Nick not Jo's boyfriend, he hates her. Jo's mom is missing, possibly insane. And at night, shadowy creatures feed on human flesh.

By the end of the day, Josie is desperate to return to her own life. But there’s a problem: Jo has sealed the portal, trapping Josie in this dangerous world. Can she figure out a way home before it’s too late?

From master of suspense Gretchen McNeil comes a riveting and deliciously eerie story about the lives we wish we had – and how they just might kill you.

Waiting on Wednesday (#20) - Mind Games by Kiresten White

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

Mind Games (Mind Games, #1)
Fia was born with flawless instincts. Her first impulse, her gut feeling, is always exactly right. Her sister, Annie, is blind to the world around her—except when her mind is gripped by strange visions of the future.

Trapped in a school that uses girls with extraordinary powers as tools for corporate espionage, Annie and Fia are forced to choose over and over between using their abilities in twisted, unthinkable ways… or risking each other’s lives by refusing to obey.

In a stunning departure from her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy, Kiersten White delivers a slick, edgy, heartstoppingly intense psychological thriller about two sisters determined to protect each other—no matter the cost.
Why I'm Waiting For It: I can't believe I have't read anything from Kiersten White! I have Paranormalcy and I wished I could have read it sooner! But Mind Games sounds so freaking amazing, no doubt. Corporate Espionage? Sisters? Psychological thriller? Hell yes, count me in! :))

Mind Games will be released on February 19, 2013 by HarperTeen

A Heartpounding Finale: Gates of Paradise - Melissa De La Cruz

Gates of Paradise (Blue Bloods, #7)Gates of Paradise by Melissa De La Cruz
Date Released: January 15th 2013
Publisher: Hyperion

Pages:  355 pages
Format: Hardcover
Source: For Review from Hyperion
Rating: Amazing!
Series: Blue Bloods #7

Goodreads Synopsis:  Schuyler Van Alen is running out of time. The Dark Prince of Hell is storming the Gates of Paradise, intent on winning the heavenly throne for good. This time he has his greatest angels by his side, Abbadon and Azrael—Jack and Mimi Force, as they are known in the Coven.

Or so he thinks. Even as Lucifer assigns Jack and Mimi the tasks of killing their true loves, the Force twins secretly vow to defeat the Dark Prince once and for all. But how far will Mimi and Jack go to conceal their real loyalties?

Meanwhile, former vampire Bliss Llewellyn has joined forces with Lawson, the greatest wolf of the underworld, to free his people from their imprisonment in Hell. As they struggle against impossible odds, an ancient message, woven into the very fabric of time, reveals just how much depends on the success of their mission.

Lucifer seeks the key to the Gate of Promise, and when Schuyler is taken captive and delivered straight to Hell, she must make an unthinkable choice—the same one the archangel Michael was forced to make during the Crisis in Rome. Will Schuyler find the strength to do what he could not?

The epic, heartbreaking Blue Bloods series comes to a close with this final novel about staggering courage, unbearable sacrifice, and the immortality of true love.

From Goodreads

My Review:
One Word: Epicness! Gates of Paradise was one of the most amazing reads I read this year and there was so much at stake! It was heart pounding  riveting, and completely captivating! Everything about it was perfect and I devoured it in one day! Mel proves herself yet again her her Blue Bloods finale!

Gates of Paradise picks up really quickly. Schuyler  Bliss, Kingsley, Mimi, and Jack are all running out of time. The Dark Prince, Lucifer is rising and he seeks the Gate of Paradise. Schuyler in hiding with Oliver, while Jack and Mimi are both swearing their allegiance back to Lucifer. Bliss is busy with the wolves finding out  how to free their own from Hell and everyone is always doing something big. The plot was so freaking good! There wasn't a single time where I wanted to drop the book because it was slow, but no Gates of Paradise didn't have it at all! The character were so amazing to see them grow ever since the first book! Everything was at stake, especially for Schuyler and everyone else. I'll definitely wont' forget them that's for sure. :)
“Because love was not the answer to every question. Because real love meant sacrifice. Sometimes love means letting go.”

Gates of Paradise has so much secrets going on the book! Every page held something new and fresh and the same secrets Mel hid throughout the plot was wickedly amazing! We find so much more about Schuyler's past, Bliss true self, and how far immortal love takes you. In all her books, she always gives her characters a voice, and no doubt Gates of Paradise did too. All the characters were fighting for something big I was hooked on her world every since and I can't wait to see what she brings next.

The ending, the battle, and epilogue was so freaking awesomesauce!!

But the killing and intensity!

But Mel always kills us with a bittersweet ending!

OMG YES

Overall, Gates of Paradise was of my favorite reads of the year! It was an amazing finale to the series and I loved every single thing about it! There's so much at stake you literally have to read it all in one day! Pick this up if you read her books or the series!

Wicked Valentine's Read-a-Thon + The Love 'Ship Challenge

Wicked Valentine's Read-a-thon

The Wicked Valentine's Read-A-Thon is hosted @ My Shelf Confessions

I'm super excited to be back blogging! It's been a while and I haven't even gotten a chance to post up reviews, do my WoW's, and read. But after school was under control, I decided to join the wicked Valentine's Read-A-Thon, which I'm so so excited to do!

Twitter
The Twitter hashtag is #WWReadathon
The Twitter parties have been scheduled at: Saturday 4-6PM EST & Tuesday 8-10PM EST

My Reading Goals:
I'm really hoping I get through one book! :)
The S - Word by Chelsea Pitcher
Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck
Also Known As by Robin Benaway

The Love 'Ship Challenge:
From My Shelf Confessions: Your mission should you choose to accept it is to pick an established relationship (get it, “‘ship” LOL) from any book or series and then tell me what sort of cruise they would go on – we all know there are SO many themed cruise ships, and you can make up a theme too! Where would the travel destination stops be? What fun things would they do together during the week? And best of all, explain why you chose what you chose! Essentially you are their cruise ship travel agent trying to give them the trip of a lifetime that they’ll love! OH and what’s the cruise ship named?

For this one I'm going with the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead! Adrien and Sydney would go on a cruise to the Bahamas together! It would be a week filled with water, sunshine, and lots of soaking fun! There would also be lots of pineapples, blood (LOL), and of course Adrien's alcohol and martini's! Plus they also get a hot tub, 24/7 massages, and and even a live concert on deck!
I choose Adrien and Sydney from Bloodlines because it would be so cool to see they together! Especially on a cruise, all hot and humid, it's cool to see them work things out with no missions or anything with the alchemist?

Like, who wouldn't want this to happen?
