Waiting on Wednesday (#54) - The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

The Winner's Curse (Winner's Trilogy #1)

Goodreads Summary: Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Why I'm Waiting For It: I LOVE Marie Rutkoski ever since her amazing Cabinet of Wonder's series which I grew up on! And seeing her brank out into YA and more serious novel I WANT THIS! The plot line sounds wickedly amazing and the cover is too die for! Ahh! She is one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait to get my hands on this!

It's So Beautiful
Cannot express this enough!

The Winner's Curse is hitting shelves on March 4, 2014!

From Goodreads

*First, let me say sorry for the sudden stop of post of Thursday and until today! I was so busy with the CAHSEE and I catched a cold on Thursday I've been struggling finding the time to blog! But I am back and get ready for February!*

Truly, Madly, Deadly is one of those book that hooks you from the beginning and keeps you up all night because of the suspense. I was that perfect book that keeps you at the end of your seat and leaves you desperate for the end! I liked this one a lot!

Sawyer Dodd is what everyone would see as the perfect girl with the perfect boyfriend, Kevin Anderson. She was realistic and I think she was really relable and you could feel the things she experienced as I read. But after her boyfriend's fatal death, a note is left for Sawyer and soon she starts noticing the killer nearby. But as the clues slowly start to make sense Sawyer notices that the killer is right under her nose.

I love the simple and clean plot and that kept me captivated in Sawyer's story. The one thing everyone looks forward to in a suspense, mystery novel is: pacing. I think Truly, Madly, Deadly captured this perfectly! And the book had a lot of those "Yes! I knew it, but then no!" moments which I think was great and I really felt myself in Sawyer's shoes! She goes through a lot and the reader truly connects with her.

OMG
The faces I made as I read the book

In YA there is a lot of phycologyical thrillers and suspense novels and I think Truly, Madly, Deadly deserves to be on that list! Reaching the end as I pieced together the clues it got creepy! REALLY CREEPY! But it was wickedly smart ending. Jayne managed to make sense of all the little details Sawyer discovers and uses it to her advantage. It was a great ending and another aspect I liked a lot was that there wasn't a full on romance!

The book was a clash of Criminal Minds with Revenge! Truly, Madly, Deadly was one of the best murder/YA suspense novels I read this year and I cannot wait to see what else Hannah Jayne has in store! Pick this one up soon!
