Waiting on Wednesday (#34) - The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

Why I'm Waiting For It: I love the plotline for this book! It sounds so freaking amazing and it's for sure going to be my first Holly Black book! And the cover look so spine chilling!

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown will be released on September 17, 2013 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

Discussion Post: Tips on Surviving The Blogger Life

This Week's Topic:
"Tips on Surviving The Blogger Life"

image

This is REALLY what goes on when you know when you start blogging.
We bloggers all had these moments and I'm here to share some tips I learned to prevent my brain from "crying" :)

1.) Set Limits
Setting limits is one tip I learned this year and it saved me so much stress! There are days you feel like you NEED to have a post and it gets to you the whole day. I did that and whoa...there was so much stress on me and my post I NEEDED to have wasn't up to my standards. The best things is knowing when you should stress or not too. If you have a blog stop, pick up the book already and read it. If you feel like you NEED to have something up but you know it's going to cause stress and you know you don't feel like it then don't. Take a break. Watch a show. Cook. Have fun.

2.) Get Some Music On!

image

Listening to music while blogging made it so much easier! Really! It does! It helps you focus so much more on doing that stuff you need to do and it keeps you hyped up about blogging. I use Spotify to listen to my music rather than Youtube, since you always have to find the songs and when its over you have to find a new one again. Spotify can be used a a radio, or listen to the music you want to than say Pandora which has limited skips. Get Some Music On!

3.) Eat..Don't Go Starving
Worst thing you can do to yourself when blogging is starving yourself  It seriously kills to not have chips and a drink nearby when hunger strikes. Soon..this will happen:

And then you get sidetracked from blogging, you end up falling asleep, and never even got that post you actually wanted and could get up on the blog. Rule of thumb: Don't go starving!

4.) Get Twitter On!
I love having twitter on since it makes blogging more enjoyable and you can start new conversations with fellow bloggers! Having twitter on helps to just see how fun blogging is, but also it's nice to relax for a couple minutes and see what's going in the bloggingsphere without google reader..etc.

These are my tips for surviving the blogger life even if you're a beginning or novice blogger! If you have some of your own tell me in the comments! Also, if you have a question for a discussion post mention it in the comments as well :D

Wow! It's finally the start of summer for me and that means blogging, reading, and hanging out with friends! I am honestly so tired of school with the stress and homework, I can finally call the shots when to do things for summer. I'm also kicking up my reading so I can reach my goal of 80 books this year and tackling my summer TBR pile!

For Review:
Wake by Amanda Hocking (Read, reviewed, and picked up book 2)
Lullaby by Amanda Hocking
Tidal by Amanda Hocking

Bought:
The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict by Trenton Lee Stewart

Library:
Animal Farm by George Orwell (For school :)

I absolutely devoured the Watersong series by Amanda Hocking! I loved all the books and she so improved from the Trylle series! These books were perfect summer reads and I can't wait for book 4. I'm liking The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict, it's a prequel to the actual series and it's good just not as good as the actual series. Hopefully it get better right? Since I'm a sophomore next year, I was thinking of reading all the books that I'll have to read next year to get a head start. I'm surprised I'm actually like Animal Farm and the concept of it.

Series: Watersong #2

Goodreads Synopsis: Harper only wanted a safe, normal life. But when her younger sister Gemma runs off with a dangerous clique of beautiful girls, Penn, Thea, and Lexi, everything changes. Vowing to get her sister back no matter what the cost, Harper must face dangers unlike any she's ever experienced. Fortunately, she has Daniel by her side, a gorgeous guy who's devoted to helping her find her sister—and who's immune to the girls' dark powers.

While Harper searches for her sister, Gemma struggles to adjust to her new life.  Gemma's powers are growing by the day, and the longer she lives with her new "sisters," the harder it is to resist entering their magical world.  It's a realm both dark and beautiful, and where she's plagued by strange hungers and unspeakable needs.  Just as she's drifting far away from her old life,  Harper and Daniel find her...but no one can deny how much she's changed.  All she wants is to return to her family and the mortal world, but how can she do that when she's become something else entirely—and will they still love her once they learn the truth?

Prepare to fall under the spell of Lullaby, the second book in the Watersong series from New York Times bestselling author Amanda Hocking.

From Goodreads

Amanda Hocking is back with her Watersong series as strong as the first. The characters are more deep, the stakes are raised, and the sirens are ready to kill Gemma and her family. Lullaby was completely a one stand read! Hocking knows how to enchant the reader, hook them with romance, and keep them turning the pages with action!

Lullaby picks off where Wake ended, Gemma has gone with the sirens to protect Alex and everyone close to her, while her sister, Harper is finding anything to kill the horrible sirens: Penn, Lexi, and Thea. To add more stress to Gemma, she has to learn the ropes about being a siren. It was intriguing to see how the sirens teach her how to eat, tell her more about the watersong, and swimming. As for Harper, she's finding where Gemma is and how she can stop them from hurting her. The POV from Lullaby was one that actually really worked. You get to see the story from Harper, Gemma, even Daniel and Alex in parts. Hocking definitely kicked up both her writing and composition of her books :)

Another standout in Lullaby is Gemma's independence and growing as a character. She has to deal with herself as a siren with those wants but also what she want for herself. I really liked Thea, even though she was one of the bad sirens. She helps Gemma deal with the watersong and Gemma's physical needs too. Also, Alex, Daniel, and Marcy are great characters too! I could really relate to the characters and Hocking does a great job with the pacing of the book also. It was also fun to see a semi action filled ending, though if you were expecting action and tons, there isn't much but I think it's trying to build up in each book.

I absolutely loved Lullaby and I'm already on the third book, Tidal and I am blown away with this series so far! Lullaby will definitely enchant it's readers into the world of sirens, and pick up Wake this summer! Perfect summer read!
